Representations of Relationships to Teachers, Parents, and Friends as Predictors of Academic Motivation and Self-Esteem.

Examined early adolescents' perceptions of their relationships as they relate to measures of school functioning. Found that representations of relationships with parents predicted those of teachers and friends. Positive representations of relationships with parents and teachers predicted school functioning, whereas representations of friends were not related to school outcomes. Representations of all three correlated with self-esteem. (HTH)
