Surviving the Junior High School Transition: Family Processes and Self-Perceptions as Protective and Risk Factors.
Lord, Sarah E.; And Others
Journal of Early Adolescence, v14 n2 p162-99 May 1994
Investigated associations of family processes and self-perceptions with adjustment and self-esteem following the transition to junior high school. Students' positive self-concepts in academic and social domains resulted in positive adjustment, whereas self-consciousness proved detrimental. Adolescents' perceptions of their parents as developmentally attuned to them were positively associated with adjustment and gains in self-esteem. (HTH)
