Preschool Children's Understanding of Disability: Experiences Leading to the Elaboration of the Concept of Hearing Loss.
Diamond, Karen E.; Hestenes, Linda L.
Early Education and Development, v5 n4 p301-09 Oct 1994
Explores the impact of having a hearing-impaired peer on preschool children's understanding of hearing and deafness, comparing children with and without a hearing-impaired peer. All children referred to their own experiences to explain hearing loss. Children with a hearing-impaired classmate understood sign language and the consequences of hearing loss better than children without this experience. (AC)
