Children and the Timing of Women's Paid Work after Childbirth: A Further Specification of the Relationship.
Joesch, Jutta M.
Journal of Marriage and the Family, v56 n2 p429-40 May 1994
Used concept of opportunity cost of time, Cox hazards models, and data on 597 women to analyze when women start paid work following childbirth. By beginning of fifth month after delivery, one-half of women had started work. Work status during pregnancy had largest effect on timing; family income, federal income tax rate, and home ownership also mattered. (Author/NB)
