Diversity and Multiculturalism on Campus: Enhancing Awareness or Perpetuating Stereotypes?
Rumrill, Phillip D., Jr.; And Others
College Student Affairs Journal, v13 n2 p36-43 Spr 1994
Tested Linville's (1982) complexity-extremity effect, that people evaluate out-group members more extremely than in-group members, among white college students (n=47). Subjects read fictitious study-abroad applications and rated applicants on intelligence, writing ability, creativity, motivation, adaptability, likability, and potential for success in study-abroad program. Findings showed that white students judged black peers' credentials on basis of skin color. (Author/NB)
