Teenage Motherhood: Its Relationship to Undetected Learning Problems.

Studied 64 adolescent mothers and their infants. Most girls for whom California Achievement Test scores were available scored at least one year below grade level in reading and language skills. Found relative delays in infant development (language and social domains). High self-esteem and social acceptance suggest that early motherhood may represent alternative avenue to success for these girls. (Author/NB)
