Age and Typicality Judgments of Stereotypes of the Elderly: Perceptions of Elderly vs. Young Adults.
Hummert, Mary Lee
International Journal of Aging and Human Development, v37 n3 p217-26 1993
Healthy, community-dwelling elderly individuals (n=43) assessed typicality and approximate age of individuals representing 10 stereotypes of elderly people identified in prior research with young adults. Results showed that older adults saw stereotypes as less typical of elderly individuals than did young adults. Both groups agreed on which stereotypes were most typical of general elderly population.
