Explores the usefulness of the verbal receptivity construct in instructional communication research. Finds that, in the area of affective learning, verbal receptivity does not provide substantially different information than responsiveness, whereas verbal receptivity contributed significantly to cognitive learning. Suggests that verbal receptivity might best be conceived as a subset of the larger responsiveness construct. (SR)
