Race Differences in Attitudinal and Motivational Factors in the Decision to Marry.
Bulcroft, Richard A.; Bulcroft, Kris A.
Journal of Marriage and the Family, v55 n2 p338-55 May 1993
Individual-level data from National Survey of Families and Households confirm underlying assumptions of restricted marriage market models and contradict notion that African-American women are rejecting marriage or see marriage as economically nonviable. Data suggest that marriage rates are lower among African-American women because African-American women place greater emphasis on having economic supports in place prior to marriage. (Author/NB)
