Whether educational administration is a profession is again debatable, as new expectations for principals and alternative credentialling proposals abound. Principalship candidates continue to be self-selected; licensure standards vary widely and have limited effects on preparation; no common framework of knowledge and skills exists. A recent National Policy Board publication offers an opportunity for agreement on licensing standards. (13 references) (MLH)
