Portfolios contain a selected sample of student work that demonstrates the student's progress toward instructional goals. Advantages of portfolios include ongoing evaluation of student progress, student empowerment and involvement in self-assessment, and greater relevance to actual classroom instruction than standardized tests. Concerns with implementation and evaluation are discussed. (SV)
