Socioeconomic Status and Psychiatric Disorder among Blacks and Whites.
Williams, David R.; And Others
Social Forces, v71 n1 p179-94 Sep 1992
Examines relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and current (six-month) and lifetime rates of psychiatric disorders among African Americans and whites. Overall, SES is inversely related to psychiatric disorder for both racial groups. Found lower-SES white males have higher rates of psychiatric illness than their African-American peers. Lower-SES African-American females have higher rates of substance abuse than their white counterparts. (Author/KS)
