Counseling Center Interventions with Low Achievers.

Investigated impact of direct counseling center intervention on first-year college students (n=128) experiencing academic difficulty. Students received personal letter, follow-up telephone call, student-counselor interaction, and referral early in second semester. Students showed significant improvement compared to control students (n=70), suggesting that strategy was somewhat effective in helping first-year students improve their academic performance.
