Effects of Counselors' Smoking Behavior and the Intimacy Level of Clients' Presenting Concerns on Nonsmokers' Perceptions of Counselors.
Schneider, Lawrence J.
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v39 n3 p313-16 Jul 1992
Nonsmoking females (n=270) observed videotaped interview in design that crossed three levels of intensity of counselor smoking, three levels of client presenting problem intimacy, and two female counselors. No interactions were observed, but counselor smoking exerted negative impact on participants' impressions of counselor characteristics and competence. Fewer differences were related to intimacy levels of client problems. (Author/NB)
