Perspectives on Older Adults in Physical Activity and Sports.
Cousins, Sandy O'Brien; Burgess, Art
Educational Gerontology, v18 n5 p461-81 Jul-Aug 1992
Challenges to physical education for older adults are (1) providing low-risk, psychologically safe settings; (2) elevating self-image and confidence; (3) dispelling ageist myths; and (4) adapting to population diversity. Approaches include making fitness prerequisite to skill development, fostering self-paced individualized learning, using sport technology, and empowering adults to control learning objectives. (SK)
