Latin continues to enjoy a small but stalwart following in the public schools. Despite budget cuts, scarcity of certified Latin teachers, and continuing scheduling difficulties, Latin advocates expect the recent modest enrollment growth to continue. Long considered an elite subject, Latin helps students master reading skills and is finding a niche in inner-city schools interested in bolstering minority achievement. (MLH)
