Aged Heterogeneity: Fact or Fiction? The Fate of Diversity in Gerontological Research.
Nelson, E. Anne; Dannefer, Dale
Gerontologist, v32 n1 p17-23 Feb 1992
Examined attention given in 185 studies to individual differences and empirical patterns of variability reported in studies presenting measures of dispersion (43 percent of gerontological studies reviewed and 24 percent of developmental studies reviewed). Most gerontological studies presenting data reported increases in variability with increasing age (65 percent). Pattern was more pronounced in longitudinal studies than in cross-sectional ones.
