The Effects of Local Labor Market Conditions on Labor Force Participation of Puerto Rican, White, and Black Women.
Melendez, Edwin; Figueroa, Janis Barry
Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, v14 n1 p76-90 Feb 1992
Assesses how differences in regional economies can explain variations in the rates of Puerto Rican, African-American and white women's labor force participation. The analysis indicates that African-American and Puerto Rican women are more affected by city size; Puerto Rican women are more affected by demand for labor; white women are more affected by the "discouraged-worker" effect.
