Using Examples and Analogies to Remediate Misconceptions in Physics: Factors Influencing Conceptual Change.
Brown, David E.
Journal of Research in Science Teaching, v29 n1 p17-34 Jan 1992
This study questions the effectiveness of a traditional teaching-by-example technique when used with students who hold misconceptions. Interview techniques were used to explore students' (n=21) responses to two different uses of examples and to provide indications of student reasoning. Results indicate that when students hold a misconception, presenting a principle with supporting examples may by ineffective. (Author/KR)
