Dental schools' ability to fulfill their missions will depend on their investment in faculty, their most valuable resource, through faculty development. The institutional opportunity structure can contribute to high faculty aspirations, self-esteem, work commitment, and sense of organizational responsibility. Institutions and faculty must also adapt to each others' needs. (MSE)
