Larkins, A. Guy; Hawkins, Michael L.
Journal of Social Studies Research, v14 n1 p25-32 Win 1990
Criticizes the prevalence of trivial and noninformative content in two primary grade social studies expanding environment textbook series. Extends earlier study, adding three additional analytical categories to its framework. To teach citizenship effectively, recommends (1) eliminating redundant, superfluous, and text-inappropriate content; (2) abandoning impotent approaches to affective goals; and (3) designing textbooks with structural integrity and imaginative writing.
