As in undergraduate education, the knowledge explosion and curriculum crowding in dentistry force greater emphasis on problem-solving skills and assessment of educational outcomes. Dental schools will be challenged to motivate faculty to perform their dual roles as teachers and researchers effectively, and faculty development centers can play an active role. (MSE)
