A Sociological Study of Second Language Diffusion: The Obstacles to Arabic Teaching in the Israeli School.
Ben-Rafael, Eliezer; Brosh, Hezi
Language Problems and Language Planning, v15 n1 p1-24 Spr 1991
Three sociolinguistic perspectives are considered in a study focusing on the rationale of Israeli linguistic policy toward Arabic. These include (1) school language programs as a matter of linguistic policies of political centers; (2) the relationship of linguistic resources to group boundaries (principally ethnicity); and (3) language resources as assets of linguistic-cultural capital.
