Therapies for Hyperactive Children: Comparisons, Combinations, and Compromises.
Whalen, Carol K.; Henker, Barbara
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v59 n1 p126-37 Feb 1991
Compares three treatment modalities for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) including stimulant treatments, primarily methylphenidate; behavioral treatments, including contingency management and parent training; and cognitive-behavioral or self-regulation therapies. Discusses methodological quandaries, constricted focus, and heterogeneity of ADHD children as impediments to comparative treatment studies. Identifies abilities often overlooked that the authors deem important in comparative analyses of therapies. (Author/PVV)
