How Does Cognitive Therapy Work? Cognitive Change and Symptom Change in Cognitive Therapy and Pharmacotherapy for Depression.
DeRubeis, Robert J.; And Others
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v58 n6 p862-69 Dec 1990
Examined effects of changes in depression-relevant cognition in relation to subsequent change in depressive symptoms for outpatients with major depressive disorder randomly assigned to cognitive therapy (n=32) or to pharmacotherapy (n=32). Although findings led to conclusion that cognitive phenomena played mediational roles in cognitive therapy, data did not support their status as sufficient mediators. (Author/NB)
