Interrelationships among Prior Knowledge, Inference, and Language Proficiency in Foreign Language Reading.
Hammadou, JoAnn
Modern Language Journal, v75 n1 p27-38 Spr 1991

Results suggest that, as comprehension proficiency improves, qualitative differences appear rather than just quantitative ones. Background knowledge was found to affect comprehension.
