Loss, Widowhood, and Psychological Distress among the Elderly.

Examined psychological response to recent nonspousal familial loss in 825 older adults. Found loss related to higher level of depressive symptomatology in men, but not in women. Widowed men and those who did not belong to church or temple showed elevated depression scores following loss, with widowers who did not belong to church or temple most depressed of all. (Author/NB)
