Test Anxiety and Academic Competence: A Comparison of Alternative Models.
Smith, Randy J.; And Others
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v37 n3 p313-21 Jul 1990
Compared ability of three theoretical models (cognitive-attentional, cognitive-skills, social learning) to explain academic performance and test anxiety of 178 undergraduates. Found that variable sets from all models added unique variance to explain performance and test anxiety. Cognitive-attentional processes emerged as relatively more important than academic skills or social learning processes, though latter sets contributed significantly. (Author/NB)
