Assessed patterns of interactions between ethnic groupings of families from observational ratings of 89 White, 79 Black, and 18 Mexican-American families. Findings showed no significant global competence or style differences between groups but found differences in theoretically important component qualities of competence and style. Addresses implications for therapists dealing with families of different ethnic groups. (Author/PVV)
