Intimacy of Friendship, Interpersonal Competence, and Adjustment during Preadolescence and Adolescence.
Buhrmester, Duane
Child Development, v61 n4 p1101-11 Aug 1990
Examined the hypotheses that intimacy of friendship is more integral to socioemotional adjustment during adolescence than during preadolescence, and that competence in close relationship skills is more important during adolescence than preadolescence. Findings suggest the importance of the ability to establish close friendships increases during early adolescence. (RH)
