Speech Rate and NNS Comprehension: A Preliminary Study in Time-Benefit Analysis.
Griffiths, Roger
Language Learning, v40 n3 p311-36 Sep 1990
An investigation into the effects of varying speech rates on English-as-a-Second-Language learners' comprehension of 350- to 400-word passages read by native speakers found that moderately fast speech rates resulted in significantly reduced comprehension, although there were few differences among comprehension at slow and average speech rates.
