The Legacy of Poverty: A Study in the Persistence of Penurious Attitudes and Behaviors in the Black Middle Class.
Davis, Richard A.
Western Journal of Black Studies, v13 n4 p208-16 Win 1989
Investigates the relationship between widespread childhood poverty and the effect of deep parental rootedness in nonaffluence, focusing on middle-class Blacks. As a group, disproportionate numbers of them have experienced poverty. Results indicate attitudinal and behavioral legacies of poverty and suggest interclass similarities in the Black community. (AF)
