Preservice Teachers' Perspectives on Why Every Teacher Is Not a Teacher of Reading: A Qualitative Analysis.
O'Brien, David G.; Stewart, Roger A.
Journal of Reading Behavior, v22 n2 p101-29 Jun 1990
Examines the dimensions of preservice teachers' resistance to content reading instruction. Finds that preservice teachers hold surface misconceptions about content reading common among teachers. Finds resistance deeply rooted in beliefs and traditions of school life relating to teachers' roles and allegiance to content disciplines. Suggests modifications to preservice content reading courses. (RS)
