Used data from 1960, 1970, and 1980 census microdata files to profile characteristics of migrants over age 60 who had recently moved within and between metropolitan and nonmetropolitan settings in United States. Three-decade pattern of differences between metropolitan-to-nonmetropolitan and nonmetropolitan-to-metropolitan migrants was demonstrated and interpreted within framework of developmental theory of migration.
