Used data from 1980 Census Public Use Sample A to examine characteristics of economically advantaged retirees in United States. About 50 percent of retirees and 40 percent of retired households had family income over twice poverty level. Economically advantaged retired households were usually headed by married, noncentral-city homeowners who showed residential stability and tended to have multiple income sources. (Author/NB)
