Lulu Wolf Hassenplug's career is the story of contemporary nursing education. In 1924, nursing students were cheap labor for hospitals and little time for academic studies. By 1968, Hassenplug and others had reformed nursing education so that nursing students were regarded students in colleges and universities earning degrees from baccalaureates to doctorates.
