A national study found three sources for beginning teachers' expressed difficulties: (1) system-related problems such as inadequate orientation, equipment, and supplies; (2) such student-related problems as lack of motivation and undesirable behavior; and (3) personal struggles with self-confidence, time management, and organizational skills.
