Two types of case studies (the prototype and the parable) are presented, to develop teachers' critical intelligence, increase sensitivity to details of settings and behaviors, and expand teachers' ideas of effective strategies. The case studies illustrate conflicts in which needs of handicapped or non-English speaking students were excluded consideration. (JDD)
