There is little evidence that student learning would be enhanced if principals were to ignore their broad-based management responsibilities in favor of a more narrowly focused orientation toward instruction. Principals must have a global view of the educational enterprise and direct their energies toward effective and efficient school management, including instruction. Includes 13 references. (MLH)
