Inherent tensions exist between equity and quality of schooling in meeting diverse student needs. The goals of providing equity are clarified in light of the analysis by Bruce Fuller. Alternative goals, based on research studies and classroom observations, are presented with concerns for equity in American secondary schools. (Author/VM)
