Investigates northern Nigerian parental attitudes toward educating females. Gives data from interviews with both rural and urban subjects. Finds that despite efforts to establish primary education, rural parents have unfavorable attitudes relative to schooling for girls while urban women support educating their daughters. Suggests that traditional negative attitudes may respond to modernizing influences. (KO)
