The Relationship of Personal Attributes and Friendship Variables in Predicting Loneliness.
Ponzetti, James J., Jr.; Cate, Rodney M.
Journal of College Student Development, v29 n4 p292-98 Jul 1988
College students (N=400) completed measures of loneliness, personal attributes, social behavior, and friendship to examine role of selected personal attributes and friendship network variables in the experience of loneliness. Found that personal attributes such as social competence and sex-role orientation were strongest predictors of loneliness for men, while friendship variables were more predictive for women.
