Stereotypic Views of Medical Educators toward Students with a History of Psychological Counseling.
Oppenheimer, Kim C.; Miller, Max D.
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v35 n3 p311-14 Jul 1988
Training directors (N=523) in six medical specialties rated hypothetical male or female applicant's personal characteristics and indicated whether they would accept applicant into training. Results indicated that residency directors formed negative stereotype toward applicants with history of psychological counseling. Subsequent stepwise multiple regression analyses indicated that this stereotype mediated directors' personnel decisions. (Author/NB)
