Generalizing from Segments to Sessions: Should It be Done?
Friedlander, Myrna L.; And Others
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v35 n3 p243-50 Jul 1988
Conducted three studies to examine what segment of counseling interview best represents entire interview and whether different starting points yield different results. Results suggest that, whereas starting points make little difference, generalizing from any size segment to whole session should not be done when examining interviews individually. Even fairly small segments can be sampled reliably when aggregating interviews. (Author/NB)
