Building on Family Strength: A Study of Families with Positive Adjustment to the Birth of a Developmentally Disabled Child.
Trute, Barry; Hauch, Christopher
Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, v14 n2 p185-93 Apr 1988
Explored patterns of coping and adaptation in families which adapted well to birth of a child with developmental disabilities. Found positive adaptation unrelated to degree of disability or soothability, or to family income. Positive family adaptation related to well-functioning parental subsystems, with two-parent families at an advantage, and skillful use of family and friendship network resources. (Author/KS)
