Gender Differences in Depressive Symptoms: Statistical Considerations.
Golding, Jacqueline M.
Psychology of Women Quarterly, v12 n1 p61-74 Mar 1988
Investigated effect of the high skewness typically present in distributions of depressive symptom scores on findings of a gender difference in depression. Skewness allowed a few extreme scores among women to produce significant between-groups differences in untransformed scores even when male and female groups' distributions were otherwise similar. Found indirect effect of gender on depression. (Author/KS)
