Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) and Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL): Past Dilemmas and Future Prospects for Audible CALL.
Dunkel, Patricia A.
Modern Language Journal, v71 n3 p250-60 Fall 1987
Factors inhibiting more widespread use of computer-assisted instruction and computer-assisted language learning include: start-up costs of computer hardware; dearth of quality courseware; skepticism regarding its effectiveness; and the educational system and the teacher. However, the promise of cost-efficiency and versatility, plus the potential for speech-generating capacity of computers make them viable second language tutors. (CB)
