The Role of Self-Explanations and Self-Evaluations in Legitimating Inequality.
Shepelak, Norma J.
American Sociological Review, v52 n4 p495-503 Aug 1987
Examines a model that relates individuals' explanations and evaluations of their socioeconomic standing to their sentiments of just rewards. Analyzes survey data and concludes that sense of worth is affected both by level of rewards and by explanations of socioeconomic standing, and that explanations and evaluations play a small role in conditioning judgements of socioeconomic fairness.
