Moral Development and Empathy in Counseling.
Bowman, James T.; Reeves, T. Glen
Counselor Education and Supervision, v26 n4 p293-98 Jun 1987
Students in a 12-week facilitative skills development course completed a measure of moral development before and after training and were rated for empathic understanding of client statements on an analog videotape and a counseling audiotape. Empathy ratings on the videotape and audiotape correlated significantly with moral development scores, suggesting that moral development level relates to ability to empathize. (Author/KS)
