Learning the origin of words and word parts for the purpose of building one's vocabulary as proposed by Becker in his work, "The Etymological Dictionary as a Teaching Device", is found to be a tedious and time-consuming activity. A more effective but similarly based approach to the use of the etymological dictionary is proposed. (LMO)
